Let’s get started with SCAPEGRACERS by Hannah Abigail Clarke (he/she/they). This book has teenage disasters galore, a devil in the shadows, and high drama situations. For Sideways Pike and her mean girl gang of demon-slayers and devourers, here are some games.
You want weird feral teens doing bullshit in high school and making out with the wrong people at parties? Monsterhearts by Avery Alder. Absolutely the rage. A classic Powered by the Apocalypse (PBTA) game that dives into the messiness of being a teenager… and also a werewolf, maybe?
Alright, the easiest indie comp here is Alicia Furness' Basic Witches. They say it best "a game of teen femmes casting spells with pumpkin spice lattes and making sigils with liquid lipstick to hex high school sexual predators and ace exams." It does not get any better than that.
Are you birds, girls, witches, or something different? Corvid Court by Gila RPGs is a slant coven/heist game and while it might not be as easy to see the connection there's a vibe here. It's mystery and magic and a little of everything else. I love how esoteric this game is, and there’s a vibe here that feels witchy and powerful. I can’t get enough of this piece.
Honestly Antifa Witches by sbackus should be a classic. When women are taken out of power, you do everything you can to put yourself back in power. And most of the time it’s for a good cause. Perfect for Sideways’ desperation as she plunges deeper into the darkness around her. Besides, what's a coven but a network for overthrowing the patriarchy?
There’s also Queer Messes by Jay Dragon which is about a dysfunctional friend group, and if you’re just into bad pack dynamics and mean girls this is the game to help you play that out. Play over the course of one disasterous party.
Last, I’m rec’ing We Starved Hearts by Blake Stone. This is another one about how friend groups fall apart, but with a little more of a horror vibe. This piece shows you at your worst, creating a game out of anxiety and touch starvation. A teenagers worst Worst nightmare.
That’s it folks! A few other links:
